Sense of belonging through sport

In the world of a university student it hard to take a moment to focus on something other than study. It is easy enough to get swallowed up in the pressures of university and have tunnel vision toward gaining your degree. Among all of this you can start to feel as though you’re losing your sense of belonging among the other 30,000 people attending university.

Sport is one of the greatest ways you can find a sense of belonging, no matter whether you’re attending university, moving to a new city or just trying to find yourself. Team sport in particular creates a comradeship among its members that allow you to grow friendships and roots to a place that before felt unfamiliar. Sport is a place where you can get to know smaller communities that exist within university. By creating a sense of belonging through sport it allows you to slow down for a minute and enjoy where you are. This builds life-long relationships with people you share something in common with that is about something other than studying.

If you haven’t played the sport before it doesn’t matter as people are more than happy to help you out. It’s the sense of sportsmanship and comradeship that create a sense of community and help you feel like you belong to something that matters to you.

Whether you’re more of a people person, or you find it easier to compete on your own

there is a sport out there that will provide you with a sense of self worth and belonging.

Sport is one of the best ways to meet new people, find your passion and make you happier. If you feel like you’re losing your sense of belonging or just want to try something new, sport is the way to go.
